|b Michael Spring 2007
b Michael broke up the monotonous routine of Fashion Week with a classy dance skit at the beginning of his show. His spring ’07 collection is classic b Michael: suits built for real men and dresses/ gowns reminiscent of the luxury found only in the roaring ‘20’s of Harlem NY. But this isn’t, by any stretch, yesteryear’s collection!
A grey with yellow stripe suit paired with a soft yellow shirt is modern and masculine all at once. There is still room for some scaling back with the ruffles, but somehow the theatrics of the show and excellent color palette mitigated this fact. B Michael succeeds primarily because it is obvious that he is having fun designing. His bone/ maze silk/ taffeta Hamptons dress is timeless and a clear testament to his zeal for designing. Another example is a gold liquid satin sheath gown with cascading side trains, which wowed the audience. There are also some clean crisp separates that are must-haves such as the denim jacket.
