Rock & Republic is responsible for one of the best shows this season. The production alone - - the show was held at the oft-talked about Cipriani on New York’s 42nd street - - was big, chic and well executed.
The rock “fashion-fete” - - because what else does one call a show where audience members are literally dancing, singing and oohing and aahing as models command the runway? - - scored big for a first offering! The collection features lots of studs, chains and sunglasses, which lends it an edginess that we welcome. We, however, wish that the logo-driven apparel could have been toned down just a smidgen and while we adore the blazers and jackets on the men’s side, the spine of the collection is the women’s side.
The women’s side is fun, flirty and multi-purpose. In fact, the entire collection straddles the line between punk sophisticate and casual rock hip. A perfect example is the black silk dress paired with black patent leather peep toe pumps and black chain bag. There is a classic feel to this collection, which really just means “authenticity” and as we all know authenticity, like ubiquity, breeds success!
