By far one of the best venues of fashion week, this cinematic event was staged at upper room of the Nat Sherman Store on 5th Ave and 42nd street. It did not hurt that it was located just a brief walk from the raucous at Bryant Park. Diran, while only showcasing his talent solo for a few seasons, has the right idea in mind.
The packed room invited all its attendees to puff cigars or blatantly smoke the thin, smooth filtered Nat Sherman cigarettes and sip Dewars Whiskey. Fashionistas mingled with garmentos, as the weight of a hectic day, full of fashion shows was lifted off their shoulders. The entire ambiance was further complimented by presence of Latin Jazz legend, Eddie Martinez.
Diran's entourage of models arrived with confidence and evoked an aura of old times past. Displaying his signature suits, blazers, and furs, Diran left his audience breathless. The models entered the arena with cigar in hand, posed for their glamour shot, and strolled casually into the midst as if they were rehearsing a scene from Casablanca.
The collection was well prepared, well designed, and above all, left one with the impression that Diran's years at Versace, Claude Montanna, and Chanel contributed immensely to his signature crafted style. Diran's take on old-world artesian crafting was apparent in slim fit trousers, and hand tailored suits. His incorporation of Shearlings in Lush Tuscano, supple Merino, and wild Tigrado Lambskins were both rugged and elegant. These bespoke looks could have easily arrived from Savile Row.
