Designer Cat Swanson (www.catswanson.com) presented her runway fashion show for Spring / Summer 2006: Silver Sea, produced by Thomas Onorato of Appealing Public Relations at The West Side Loft. Cat collaborated this season with Creative Nail, a team from Jane Iredale Cosmetics led by celebrity make up artist Charlie Green, and a team from Bumble and Bumble led by hair artist Marco Santini. Skin care products were provided by Decleor Paris for the gift bags and in the lounge a silver tray champagne reception courtesy of Martini and Rossi and cupcakes by Cupcake Café greeted the guests.
Cat Swanson’s Spring 2006 collection is a play on softness, youthfulness, mood, and light. Sea-like silvers glimmer through breeze blown soft natural whites, Mediterranean blues and cool grays in both trimmings and linings. Exploring both the bizarre and the feminine, the silhouettes of the season have evolved into more artistic and modern shapes, voluminous or relaxed in fit. Custom prints are playful in spirit. For spring, we unveil an effortless elegance with rare beauty and chic, resort-like personality.
Born in Agana, Guam, Catherine Swanson spent most of her childhood in Port Arthur, Texas. During her teens, Swanson, influenced by her parents (an artist mother and a physician father), manifested an appreciation for science as well as the fine arts.
While attending the University of Texas, Catherine enhanced her studies by completing coursework at both Central St. Martin's and Oxford University in England. During her senior year, Catherine received the honors of best print design and best eveningwear from the University of Texas. Upon gaining both a B.S. degree in Fashion Design and B.A. degree in English, Cat moved to London to work under leading British designer, Arkadius. While in London, she was honored in Texas with the prestigious George H. Mitchell award for academic excellence and artistic endeavor.
When at Arkadius, Ltd., in 2002, Catherine attained the position of personal assistant to the director of emerging international company and television satellite network, Fashion Music, Ltd. In December, she founded her own label, Cat Swanson, Inc. and was invited to be one of 20 international designers (including Betsey Johnson and Julien MacDonald) to design an ensemble for the BMG 'Elvis Inspired' fashion auction to benefit the Prince’s Trust, held at Sotheby's Olympia in London.
In February 2003, Cat returned to her design studio in Austin, Texas to begin the production of her debut collection. Cat Swanson presented her first collection, "Tiger Lily", in September 2003, which premiered at 7th on Sixth in Bryant Park. The collection garnered much attention from the fashion industry, including a full-page article in The New York Times, which led up to the show. The collection was also featured on the following networks: NY1, Fashion Television, E! Entertainment Television, and the Style Network. A myriad of music industry celebrities, including Liz Phair, Lil' Kim and Britney Spears piqued an interest in wearing Cat Swanson designs.
After surviving a plane crash in Florida on Thanksgiving Day that took the life of her father, Cat Swanson returned to New York in 2004 to present her Fall/Winter collection in New York Fashion Week. Cat Swanson (sponsored by SAGA Furs) introduced accessory designs in fur, which were immediately picked up by Neiman Marcus and were photographed for several international publications including Japan’s Luire Magazine.
Despite the tragedy of 2004, Cat Swanson continues to show in New York Fashion Week, without missing a season. Working with leading industry stylists and fashion editors, her pieces may be seen in leading national and international editorial publications including Cream, Clear, Cosmo Girl, Elle Girl, Gotham, Fader, Glamour Espanol, In Style, Lucky Magazine, Sportswear International, Stitch, Sleek, Luire, Nikki Style, Squint, Vellum, Vegas, Planet, BlackBook, Gotham, and Spin.
The Cat Swanson collection is available at high-end boutiques across the nation including Cantaloupe and B 8 Boutique in New York, Elements and Factory People in Texas, Chroma and Shaz in Florida and Inago and Two Skirts in California.
