While backstage I had a chance to get an up close view of the cashmere silk suits, tweeds and plaids. Listening to him speak on his collection one can hear the excitement and passion he has for his work, which also translates into a strong creative details to each piece. He indulges the audience with not only well-crafted tailored suits but also the emergence of hand-sewn denim. He has studied men and womenswear from all over the globe and has interpreted his creations into global lifestyle clothing Michael Wesetly is one of the few African-American global designers whose labels for all apparel and accessories proudly carry the MADE in USA tag.
This season Michael Wesetly exclusively designed 13 expressions for The Color Purple and the cast members from the Broadway musical produced by Oprah Winfrey, Scott Sanders, Roy Furman and Quincy Jones meet a different stage.
This pairing is unique but perfect, the color purple stands for beauty, royalty and spirituality. Within the novel and the play The Color Purple gives us hope suggesting that there is something to live for and this strong color represents the delicate lines of loyalty, warmth, and love which triumphs over all. The mysterious color, purple, is blended into Michael Wesetly’s collection creating dramatic ensembles for men that will command authority.
The Michael Wesetly Fall 2006 collection is setting the tone for luxury and with his tribute to the novel and musical consisting of deep eggplants that give a conservative and earthy richness, the lighter shades evoke more of a romantic and delicate undertone. He incorporated subtleness in all 13 looks, from his ties to the pinstripes on his velvet suit.
