After Vlassis Holevas’ show Wednesday night in the Atelier at Bryant Park, all I could think of was when I was booking my trip to the Southeastern European paradise also known as Greece. On the invitations, in the gift bag, in the designer’s native blood, and definitely on the runway, Holevas’ inspiration was clearly understood: “live your myth in Greece .”
This up and coming designer, who premiered in the United States last year, knows the woman figure, and certainly knows how to design for it. Just as the see-through paper was peeled from the runway, the lights turned off for a brief moment, and all of the sudden, more than 30 ensembles of color presented themselves one after another.
Some of his most astonishing ensembles were the cocktail pleated silk chiffon bustier with beaded waist, the midnight blue sequent halter short evening dress, the long white silk chiffon bustier with French lace insets and satin trim and the orange, red ombre silk chiffon long dress.
