A bevy of tanned and glowing models strutted down the runway in a collection of gowns, tea length dresses and flowing pants fit for the red carpet at the US debut of Greek designer Vlassis Holevas. Holevas was sponsored by the Greek National Office of Tourism for the fashion show which took place on September 15, 2005 at Olympus Fashion Week.
Patricia Field, famous for styling Sex and the City commented,” What a beautiful collection. I’m so happy Vlassis decided to show in New York”. WWD wrote “Holevas’ girls-night-out chiffon dresses have…Paris Hilton’s name written all over them”. Mara Urshel of Kleinfeld Bridal called it “a wonderful collection” and later purchased eight gowns. Neiman Marcus who received their first delivery from Holevas in August also picked several designs from the new collection.
Holevas’ gowns and evening wear, already a favorite of socialites and actresses in Greece, consisted of feminine, sexy silhouettes using silk taffeta, chiffon and satin with Swarovski crystal trims, hand-painted prints, laser cut Chantilly lace and hand cut pleated silk organza. Holevas is considered one of Greece’s most successful representatives in the fashion industry and has been honored as an innovator for his creations. His clients include Greek singers Despina Vandi and Elena Paparizou, television stars Eleni Menegaki and Moni Bakodimou, and artist Della Rounik.
