Michael Carbaugh came to New York from San Francisco to create collections that, according to his company statement, "establish the trend - not follow it." The label's accolades so far have been true to this mission. Women's Wear Daily said that Sandoval was "clearly the collection to watch/' and applauded Michael for smart design and quality craftsmanship.
"My style is to put new twists on old classics,' Michael said. "I want to design comfortable, beautiful clothing that fits into a woman's wardrobe."
Michael graduated with a degree in textile design from the Academy of Art University. His collection for the "UPS Delivering Fashion's Future" venue is inspired by fashion from the late 1970s and early 1980s. "My grandmother was very chic, yet classic," Michael said. "It's that late '70s Sigourney Weaver, Faye Dunaway, Lauren Hutton look that inspires me. As a kid, I had a pullover Baja, and the color and weave inspired me to converge textured woven into a micro version in knit.”
