Great beauties gone mad. The tragically elegant
heroines of 'Suddenly, Last Summer' and 'Grey Gardens' imbue
Fall 2004 with a reckless glamour. Layered clothes combine an off-
center couture feeling with the artfully deconstructed.
Romantically luxe. Dramatically subtle. Our heroine enjoys the
wild abandon of nature mixed with severely cinematic silhouettes.
Fabrics for Fall 04 are all about elegant and textured swaths of
iridescent peau d'ange, Donegal tweed, printed mousseline,
panne velvet nubby lurex-shot tweeds mixed with luxurious plush
cashmere sweaters, jewel-encrusted, beaded tulle and slippery silk
charmeuse. And of course, natural mink and chinchilla over
everything! What more could our heroine want?
Colors including windswept Newport brights such as apple green
and Wedgwood blue combined with shades of plum, lilac,
chocolate and champagne. Elegant neutrals are showed in
midnight, heather grey and the always-chic black, in the form of
the perfect cocktail dress.
The silhouette is lean. A nipped waist, a long leg, a fitted bodice.
The cocktail dress gets a skinny belt, a sprinkling of palliates—or a
kick of a ruffle. The skirt-suit gets redefined with a short-sleeve t-
shirt. Elegantly louche coats frame the face with mink. Whatever
it takes for a woman to feel even more beautiful, sexy and modern
than she already is.
Fall 2004, off-center elegance is dead-on.
