Fashion Ledge - J Mendel
J. mendel

automne-hiver 2005 collection

For fall 2005 designer gilles mendel continues his exploration of modern couture. taking inspiration from his youth in paris, gilles channels the effortless chic of his first fashion muses, charlotte rampling and romy schneider. "i always admired the way these women dressed, such easy classic style that always seemed so incredibly cool" says mendel. long known for translating these ideals into fur, mendel now applies these principles to tweeds and wools. he reconstructs these fabrics on a silk stretch base making them lighter and more comfortable to wear. "for me modern dressing is all about ease" states gilles mendel "my goal is to create unique clothes that suit the busy lifestyle of my clients".

For late day mendel adds volume to his traditional long and lean silhouette. knee grazing dresses in gazaar and silk satin are given a baroque flourish with silver bouillon, metal sequins and feathers. for formal nights mendel favors the empire line. he reinvents the classic ball gown by draping a melange of modern fabrics, many with metal threads into weightless confections. in addition to creating the sleekest sable and chinchilla coats, mendel further redefines the notion of classic fur by creating the first down coat in velvet mink. the j. mendel collection turns innovative design into modern luxury.
