Piyawat Pattanapuckdee was born and educated in Thailand and then moved to
New York City to attend the Pratt Institute and graduated with a degree in Interior
Design and Architecture. After graduating, Piyawat decided that he wanted to
pursue a career in fashion and pounded the pavement until he was hired at Anne
Klein in 1989. While at Anne Klein, he worked with such talented designers including
Louis Del'Olio, Richard Tyler and Patrick Robinson. After eight years, he left
Anne Klein to design on his own for Adrienne Vittadini and Vivienne Tam, before
he joined Richard Tyler. Piyawat was hired at Halston last April and worked
immediately under Craig Natiello until his departure last November. (Ironically
enough, Piyawat worked briefly with Kevin Hall at Halston in 1998).
The creative force behind Halston, Piyawat keeps the philosophy true by rejecting trends and fads in favor of a lasting signature look. The innate sense of quality and tastes epitomizes the American couture. The understanding of the essence of Halston is an integral part of the re-emergence of the brand.
Piyawat, along with Declan Kearney (Assistant Designer), has designed an elegant Fall 2002 Collection combining original Halston with today's sophistication. The collection is about modern and luxurious simplicity all the while complimenting the woman. The Fall 2002 Collection was shown in their showroom, hosting about 150 people, creating an exclusive, intimate feel. They believe that the attacks on September 11th put things into perspective. The shows in the past had become a spectacle of who's attending (including celebrities and socialites) and where they are seated rather than the actual clothing. This collection is about the beautiful details and the fabrics. And by showing in a small venue these details were the focus. Luxurious cashmere, pleated chiffon with satin trim and mink fur trim and jackets are the fabrics used for the collection. The collection will be in stores in August/September 2002.
Some of Halston’s clients under Piyawat include celebrities: Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis, Juliet Binoche, Toni Braxton, Heather Locklear, Faith Hill, Gloria Estafon, Susan Lucci, Tracy Pollan, Rachel Griffiths, Lauren Graham, Janel Moloney and Edie Falco. And socialites including: Marjorie Gubelmann, Jamee Gregory, Tory Burch, Countess Vanessa Von Bismarck and Princess Marie Lichtenstein.
