Fashion Ledge - Manuel
Manuel Spring 2007

Tupac’s California Love announced Manuel’s spring 2007 collection and its “Ole California” theme. Manuel’s second offering, which includes men’s women’s and accessories, mirrors the Spanish influence in the west. There is a vintage nostalgia exuded. Tans, khakis, and black colors as well as the use of rhinestones help to convey the tale of Ole California. “Ole California is part rebel, part peasant, part bandit, part royalty, and part matador, the rock star of his day.”

A dirty leather cowl back neck jacket with braided leather belt and cutout detail with cotton/ rayon riding pants exemplifies Manuel’s use of Spanish braiding techniques and stitching. I am a huge fan of the dirty leather trench coat with back yoke detail and a pair of masculine white stretch distressed leather pants. The collection separates offer pleasant mismatching opportunities.

There is also a rock & roll feel to the collection, especially with the addition of metal biker jackets and the ample silver jewelry found throughout. Manuel is for rebellious and edgy individuals. But what’s a rebel without a heart? Part of the Manuel collection uses the 65 roses motif on its garments, which references kids living with cystic fibrosis - - these kids often mispronounce the disease as “65 roses.” A worthy cause - - kudos!
