Anait Bian  NY Fashion Week Spring 2007

Fashion Ledge - Anait Bian
Anait Bian Spring 2007

This time of year brings one thing to mind for the fashion set: Fashion Week…but for many who remain on the other fringes of society, particularly to social set, The U.S. Open is at hand. For spring ‘07, Anait Bian's collection was akin to a forty-love match at the US Open. Models strolled down the runway in an array of pleated skirts and tennis-dresses as if they had just been transplanted prior to a volley. This was juxtaposed by Anait's architectural and graceful evening wear, bringing together as the French say, "le meilleur des deux mondes." The Great Gatsby's "Mia Farrow" served as inspiration for Anait's Spring/ Summer Collection ‘07. The incorporation of wool, cotton organza, chiffon, and satin allowed her to serve a collection with few faults.

Volume was not the idea here. Bian's form fitting separates, halter dresses and evening wear shown in vanilla cream, teal blue, and sorbet yellow, could easily be taken from runway to retail with little or no adjustments. A key feature in Bian's collection was the use of multiple pleats on different silhouettes, allowing for various drapes on tennis skirts, evening gowns, boy shorts, and even tops. Add the detachable collars, which were shown on many of her dresses, and you can easily pull off a look for day, that can be transformed for an evening cocktail party. The models were styled with clear vinyl heels with matching wide vinyl belts keeping the classical element at bay by adding a little touch of naughtiness.
