Brazilian designer Alexandre Herchcovitch's spring ’07 collection created a buzz with his show at Bryant Park. The colorful collection was inspired by tribal prints of the Ndebele of Zimbabwe, offset with of a touch of punk. The Ndebele's tribal abstract prints of red, yellow, brown, black and white, were incorporated into the collection as whole, and reappeared throughout the show on separates.
The debutantes sauntered down the runway, styled with oversized velour belts, necklaces and bracelets. Long silk chiffon shirts, cotton metallic studded, pleated trench coats, boy shorts and capes were Alexandre's main focus in this collection.
A striking piece from the collection was a brown silk, chiffon shift with combination satin. However, Herchcovitch then ventured into a different territory at times and left things a bit blurry. From a design standpoint, at times his ideas seemed confusing, but if nothing else, and in more ways than one, Hercovitch’s show will be one of the more memorable shows of the season.
