Shanghai Tang  NY Fashion Week Spring 2006

Fashion Ledge - Shanghai Tang

Written By Yvette Coleman

On a crisp fall evening I had the pleasure to walk on 5th Avenue amongst some of the elite fashion names in the couture world. In a four story building just off the corner was a sleeping giant: Shanghai Tang. Glancing around the boutique, and touching the textures of the collections I imagined what I would be in store for. The surroundings were warm, with vibrant accent walls of red. Red is known as a sensory stimulating color and the fact that they made red a signature color of the boutique said to me that the preview would speak to me about confidence. This season Shanghai Tang has devotedly collaborated with contemporary artists to convey genuine Chinese culture.

This Spring/Summer 2006 has prints, motifs from expressions of art, while blending unique, vibrant, fun interpretations of what Shanghai Tang is known for in the fashion world. The models came in twos and I had the opportunity to stand right next to them. I seized the moment to view each one up close and personal. I enjoyed the youthful, and playful approach to ideas of conflicting patterns and shapes. They conflicted so much that it made sense! Some pieces I would wear (separately of course) but nonetheless they were feasible. Shanghai Tang keeps with the old and celebrates the new.
