Fashion Ledge - Loris Diran
A Man Apart: Loris Diran Spring 2007

Loris Diran's Spring 07 Collection was literally a breath taker. As is often the case nowadays in fashion, designers cheat and connive alluring consumers and fashion insiders alike with a gimmick. Here comes Loris Diran, whose smart and witty collection focuses on the value of cut, fabrication and application of hand finishing techniques. Inspired by images of Twiggy, Jean Shrimpton, David Hemmings and the model Verushka in the film "Blow Up," we were taken on a fascinating journey. Diran's collection of men’s suits and elegant women’s separates, reminds us of what fashion is about. Extremely tailored and sharp men’s suits were combined with graceful women’s garments.

With a soft and ethereal color palette of grays, tans, lavender and aqua, Diran focused on exhibiting his expert skills as a fabric craftsman. In speaking with Diran, he mentioned that it only makes sense for him to design women’s wear as well as men’s: "One should not design women’s without men’s" or vice versa. For the women’s garments, Diran contemplated what matron would accompany his beau. In essence, his collection was shown to illustrate how Diran's stately couple should stylishly dress. Diran's elegant silk separates should remain in bold on many a retailers list!

As for men’s wear, Diran stayed true to form, showing men’s wear in crafty cashmeres, linens, satins, and wools. A personal favorite was Diran's creased pearlized silver linen shirt and gray wool gabardine wide leg pant. For women’s garments, the editor picks were numerous. We eagerly look forward to Duran's next offering.
