There is a lightness that Way Zen’s collection exudes each season. It is inherent in the very décor of the showroom. The light oak wood paneling provides a stunning backdrop and insists that we are reminded about nature as does the incessant floral patterns throughout the collection. I should point out that while shown together, the …Way collection is a line of separates with the theme of the four elements (water, wind, earth and fire) and the JSong collection is mostly social occasion pieces such as hand-cut lace and floral embroidered dresses and suits.
This season the mantra is “nature speaks through me.” Vegetable-dye colors such as lavender and leafy green are employed, which add an unmistakable depth to the nature theme. My two favorites are the “fire” and “water” themes. The fire segment has a red cotton crochet blouse with trumpet skirt that is flirty and fun. The white linen battenberg lace jacket with trumpet skirt was the highlight of the water segment.
The floral motif was a bit excessive and at least one outfit during the water segment came out twice (green and then khaki color), implying that the show was geared more toward buyers. Nonetheless, the collections win because there is a harmony that is created and we applaud the dedication to nature.
