Brazilian-born Sueli Costa has been involved in the fashion industry for years. Her fashion career began as a runway model when she was still a teenager in her native Brazil.
After graduating from the Paramount Fashion School in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 1988, Sueli Costa opened her atelier and factory with the purpose of supplying her own boutiques. In the mid 1990s after returning from Milan, Italy, she moved to Miami and opened her first Opera boutique in the USA, specializing in upscale swimwear and lingerie in Miami's trendy South Beach area. The boutique quickly became a hit in the swimwear retail business and a favorite stop for top models, stylists and celebrities.
It was with her clients in mind that Sueli decided to start designing her own line of exclusive and sophisticated swimsuits to fulfill their needs. In 2001, she decided to make her swimwear line available to selective retailers around the globe, proving to be another success.
Sueli Costa now devotes her time to designing her swimwear collections, Opera Swimwear and Opera by Sueli Costa, and a full line of beach accessories. She personally inspects the work of her team of craftswomen and experienced seamstresses, each one carefully chosen by Ms. Costa herself.
Sueli's most recent achievement was the Swarovski Swimwear Project, where she was invited by the European company to design an exclusive piece of swimwear showcased in January 2005 in Paris during the Salon of Lingerie and in Spain at the Moda Barcelona last February. Sueli's one-of-a-kind piece was exhibited along with other top designers, including Roberto Cavalli, La Perla, Christian Lacroix and others.
