FashionLedge.com had a quick q&a with Brian prior to his show.
FL: What are you most proud of when you think about your collection (particular piece or overall theme)?
Wood: I love developing themes for the collections. It's shows creativity and individuality. A lot of times designers develop the same themes without even knowing, but the fun part is to see how each designer interprets the idea and translates that into their collection.
My fall 06 presentation is entitled Sherlock Holmes Gone Mad. The basis for this year’s collection is that Sherlock Holmes and Scotland Yard are baffled on their latest crime solving case causing Mr. Holmes to go quite madly insane.
The duke of Windsor on a magical hallucinogenic adventure inspired my spring 06 presentation: Edward’s wacky trip. I was shocked to find out in Europe for fall 06 Burberry Prosum, Etro and others used the duke of Windsor as the basis for their inspiration. It's exciting to see that I was a season ahead of the European designers.
FL: How have you grown as a designer?
Wood: Everyday, every time I freelance or work in the industry I learn and grow as a designer. Also, working with my friend, pattern maker Judith Scates has helped me really develop my technical skills. I have also grown as a designer by realizing this is a business, and there are a lot of elements that go into designing a collection than just making pretty pieces.
FL: Your collection can be purchased where and what is the price range?
Wood: My t-shirt collection Brian Wood exclusive can be purchased in New York at Probus in Washington Heights. Stil on Newbury Street in Boston, and Stil at the Mall at Chestnut Hill in Boston. I also started shipping to Tomorrow land in Japan. I'm very excited. The t-shirts run from $62.00 to $160.00. The shirts are all one of a kind and many are hand painted.
