French court dressing during the 1770’s was drastically altered by political pressures demanding change. The metamorphosis reflected the influence of the English Royal Court, and “dressing a l’Anglais” became de rigueur. Embroidered cottons replaced silk jacquards, and the English aristocracy set the style. Inspired by the painting “Mr. and Mrs. Andrews” by Sir Thomas Gainsborough, the Palmer Jones Spring 2007 Collection mirrors the styles of the wealthy English landowners at the end of the 18th century as translated by the French Court. Palmer Jones has transformed these historical pieces into modern, urban styles.
Palmer Jones combines romance with modern energy, reflecting the individual personalities of the twin sister designers, Kathryn and Lindy Jones. Sleek tailoring, vintage embroideries, exquisite fabrics and flawless construction are the essence of the designs.
