Microphone Check One Two…
By Odienne Dina Chisolm
Remember rap before there was a specific dance associated with a song? Like before the Laffy Taffy and Chicken Noodle Soup dynamics, there was a place in hip hop where some still had relatable lyrics that not only rhymed but made sense.
One liners sometimes would say it all like, “I went from ashy to classy,” Notorious B.I.G. (baby baby!) or lengthier things like “ She wanted us to end cause I f*cked her friend, she gave me one more chance then I f*cked her again. I seen the tears when she busted in I said sh*t it’s a draft shut the door b*tch and come on in..”
We could go on and one about those lyrics that you didn’t just hear, but you could actually feel them. Whether they were educating you and raising your cultural awareness with artists like Common and Nas or strictly entertaining you like Biggy and Jay-Z, there is no disputing that there was a difference.
Starr Media Group’s founders Andre Davis and Joe Clark recognize that fact and have sought out unique individuals from all walks of life who are ready to make the game as raw and authentic as it used to be with a young creative flow. The individuals who make up Starr Media Group, also known as S.M.G. have all faced mountain sized obstacles. Through these triumphs integrity was developed in each talent. The group consists of 9 members (4 rappers, an R&B singer and a Reggaeton artist) as well as a three-member production team, The Presidentz. These individuals formulate S.M.G.’s current stars being built within the organization.
Without the financial backing of a major S.M.G. has produced and distributed previous singles/cd’s which include: Rapper C-Gutta’s single One Hell of A Drug, group CD City of Starrz (hosted by Kay Slay’s DJ Radio), Rappers Joe Clark, Oxpro and C-Gutta’s collaboration, I'm Fresh and R&B singer Rita Tyler’s, I'm a Flirt (reply to R.Kelly) which is featured on Hot 97’s Playlist CD, to name a few. Production team, The Presidentz, have been labeled “the craziest Reggaeton producers on this planet,” according to Grammy-Award winning producer Rocwilder as they recently gained recognition in Rocwilder’s tournament, RocBattle. They left the battle as undefeated Grand Champions.
Starr Media Group’s new album The Cookout drops on August 28th and it’s nothing short of great. With 21 cuts on this sophomore project, each artist will win you over from the gate hands down.
In addition to the music division, S.M.G. also houses television and modeling sectors. An international division of S.M.G. is currently being developed in Perth Australia. “We are taking over the industry. You can ride with us or get job eliminated, either way, it’s going to happen.” For more details on S.M.G. and to hear their music log on to: www.starrmediagroup.com
