THIS FALL’S “MUST HAVE” GRAPHIC
TEE! Stewart+Brown introduces 100% organic cotton graphic tees
for their “harvest inspired” fall 2005 collection.
This original sketch, taken directly from Karen Stewart’s
journal, is an addition to their already popular basic and
graphic tee collection. Stewart+Brown incorporates their artistic
skills for a holiday “must have.”
The Stewart+Brown “Gourdy” graphic tee is available
in both short and long sleeve tee shirts and long sleeve polo’s.
It is offered in the following colors: white, glacier blue,
bay, geranium, soy sauce and cashew. Stewart+Brown adds colored
stitched trim for special detailing.

Previously, the ability to be both stylish and eco-friendly was
an unfeasible paradox – enter Stewart+Brown, the headlining
force in fashion’s movement towards healthier lifestyle and
sustainable business practices. Contrary to the stigma that surrounds
the term “organic,” the collection is functional and
fashionable enough to follow you through every step of every day – work,
travel, yoga, or an evening out on the town. Unlike other “organic” or “fair-trade” brands
currently on the market, for Stewart+Brown, it’s not about
exploiting an image of virtuousness but rather promoting that of
a more informed, balanced, and meaningful way of being.
Unable to find high quality, stylish clothing that had been
produced with minimal impact on the environment, the long-time
outdoor enthusiast husband-and-wife duo Karen Stewart and Howard
Brown discovered a glaring hole in the fashion industry with
an infinite market potential. By the age of 30, Brown, a graphic
designer and brand development guru, had already exceeded his
professional goals: he had won hundreds of design awards and
his work was known and exhibited around the world; he led Urban
Outfitters through its boom in the ‘90s, and carried
Anthropologie through its conception, launch, retail and catalog
rollouts; he branded divisions of major corporations, including
Microsoft, ESPN, X-Games, and Burton Snowboards, and worked
for advertising titans DM9DDB in Sao Paulo, Brazil. He ran
his own creative firm, and was now ready to pursue his dream.
When Stewart, a skilled painter cum designer - for powerhouse
brands Urban Outfitters, J. Crew and Patagonia, received news
of her pregnancy, she and Howard agreed that it was the perfect
time to develop and launch their own brand. Shortly after,
Stewart+Brown was born with the goal of creating beautifully
designed, premium quality, sustainable products produced with
minimal ecological damage. To Karen and Howard, Stewart+Brown
provides the means to exercise their creativity and marry their
passion for life, design, and the natural environment.
“We couldn’t find high-quality organic cotton,” Brown
said. “We couldn’t find a good fit. We looked all
over the world and nobody had it. So, we made it.” Stewart+Brown
currently knits all of their organic fabrics and manufactures
all of their non-cashmere products in the USA. Their cashmere
is produced and knitted in Mongolia by indigenous peoples as
an effort to support and sustain their centuries old way of
life.
The Stewart+Brown collection is composed of three product
categories: ORGNC - the Organic Cotton line of pima, jersey,
fleece and French terry knitwear (equally delightful worn alone
or layered); CSHMR – pure Mongolian cashmere sweaters
and accessories knitted from the finest fibers from the world’s
premiere cashmere region of inner Mongolia; and SURP+ - a collection
of apparel and accessories developed from exactly that – excess
fabrics and materials, including organic cotton canvas and
technical nylon, from another manufacturer’s production.
Additionally, Stewart+Brown produces a line of cashmere products
for children and is launching their men’s cashmere collection
in limited edition this fall. Full collections for both Kids
and Men’s are scheduled to launch in 2006.
