BedHead Morning, Noon...Tonight

by Sofroina Timmons

Why would anyone wake up when there ‘s a blend of 95% cotton 5% Lycra flannels that are printed and double brushed assuring no fading…ever! And why would you attempt to roll out of bed wearing such fabrics that are soft to the touch and have a blend of cotton sateen with a slight sheen to it? “Not on your very best day” you wouldn’t!

Bedhead Pajamas is created by Canadian owner and designer Renee Claire who relocated to Los Angeles to pursue her dream as a fashion designer. While supporting herself as a full-time waitress, she made dresses in her spare time. As the dress industry slowed down, Renee Claire stumbled upon her niche. While packing for a trip to Europe, she was in search of the “perfect” fun, sophisticated pair of pajamas. Unsuccessful in her search, the idea of designing her own line of pajamas came to light and voila, “Bedhead Pajamas” was born! In 1998, she began designing custom pajamas out of her apartment.

Bedhead’s newest line is a stretch collection, a blend of cotton/Lycra ensuring the perfect fit for all body types that are listed in a wide range of selections. The selections are Cotton, Flannels, Basics, Mommy and Me, Lounge Wear, Robes, Men’s, Plus size, Luxe, Tanks, Dresses, Maternity, accessories and slippers, and the Sales. An additional line is Bedhead Bedding!

Say a little bit about the name of your brand?
The term “Bedhead” has been a favorite saying in our family when one wakes up in the morning with hair askew. The idea came to me when I decided to launch the PJs line and thought it was a fun, whimsical name.

How would you describe the overall feel/vibe of your line?
We describe our line as ‘couture loungewear’. Our pajamas are for people who love to lounge and feel they deserve nothing less than luxurious sateen cotton or flannels to sleep in.

Do you have big plans for the major holidays like Valentine's Day?
Absolutely! We have great Valentine’s Day gifts like a gorgeous pink voile embroidered with red hearts and amazing Liberty of London PJs with paisley hearts that’s the ultimate gift for your favorite girl. We get the fabric from Liberty of London, Europe’s oldest textile house. The quality is amazing and the prints are gorgeous.

What do you think will be the biggest trends in lingerie for Spring 2010?
I think colors are the name of the game this upcoming Spring, from soft pastels to bold vibrant colors. There’s something for everyone right now.

What trends are you seriously tired of and hope will remain in 2009?
I think with the economic downturn we saw a decline in “high design” pieces, things that were not easily “wearable”. I’m glad that people have gotten back to basics more this year, focusing on quality and comfort instead of names and labels. Also, here at BedHead, our PJs are all made right here in LA, so at a time when people are worried about jobs staying in the , BedHead is a company you can trust will never outsource our pajamas oversees.

What can we expect from your next collection?
You know, our biggest ‘new’ thing here at Bedhead has been the launch of our bedding line which was launched after so many people asked if they could get bedding in the same great patterns as their PJs. And so, we thought why not?! Each season we add a little more and expand our style selection, so who knows? There is something new every season at Bedhead, so just wait and see!

Give us three words that best describe the brand?
Quality, Comfort and Creativity!

Where can your line be purchased and what are the prices?
Our PJs are sold in small boutiques nationwide, Neiman Marcus and Nordstrom and we also have Bedhead Boutiques in Los Angeles. We are also proud to announce the opening of its second Los Angeles retail location on 3rd Street. Our prices range from $89 to $250.
