Red Wing: Reliability Is Thy Muse

by Kenyatta D. Pious
Red Wing has been around for a long time, since 1905 when its founder, Charles H. Beckham, created the first offering in a Minnesota river town called Red Wing. The company has survived two wars and The Great Depression - - how about that for reliability? While Red Wing has offerings for men and women, the company is best known for making sturdy boots and shoes for workmen, specifically for men who relish “manly” activities. Think: rugged and refined.

Men in demanding fields of work such as construction and factories or who hike a lot are huge fans of Red Wing footwear. And for good reason: Red Wing boots/shoes adhere to a strict attention to detail code and come in a slew of fashions. For example, Steel Toe Boots offer an additional safety net for workmen in case a load should fall on the tips of their shoes. Another example is the motorcycle boot which gives men the option of a zipper, pull-up, or lace-up. The Engineer boot, 2971, can be unbuckled at the top giving the wearer an extra sense of individuality.

It is easy to see that Red Wing footwear is versatile and allows for multiple pairings with rolled-up jeans, t-shirts and tailored jackets etc. Some of our favorite Red Wing offerings are the Steel Toe Boots, Hiking Boots, Pull-On Boots, Oxfords and the 875s, which Red Wing is giving away to a few of our lucky readers in the contest featured below.

We applaud the 875s for their cushion crepe wedge sole with traction tred for flexible, non-slip comfort, especially now that inclement weather is the norm in our neck of the woods. The 875s also feature full grain oil-tanned, water-repellent leather and a sweat resistant leather insole (which is a must-have!).
