Hot 97’s team, Ebro, Cipha Sounds and Rosenberg have been hyping up this event it seems since January 1st . Well, you can believe the hype because every artist on the roster delivered, with a bang!
The line-up included, Wu-Tang Clan, Chris Brown, Kendrick Lamar, Wale, Miguel, 2 Chainz, Fabolous, ASAP Rocky, French Montana & Joe Budden.
There were plenty of guest appearances that surprised the crowd. Mariah Carey was one of them! Miguel brought Mariah out to perform their duet, “Beautiful.”
According to Hot 97’s Program Director, Ebro, Mariah almost missed her performance: “Getting Mariah all the way up to the stage, when she just arrived like 5 minutes before Miguel went on, wasn’t easy. Especially with high heels and a glass of champagne in her hand.”
Miguel also brought out J. Cole for the song “Power Trip.” J. Cole had the cool vibe, but when he performs, there is an energy that says, “I’m working for you!” He seems to want to gain fan respect and he really works to entertain the people. He did just that, and next to Miguel, you better come with some hard core energy!
Lil Kim was another surprise who was brought out by no other than Fabolous, a.k.a. Fab - Brooklyn stand up! Hot 97 informed listeners post-show on the Cipha Sounds & Rosenberg show that rapper Foxy Brown was supposed to accompany Lil Kim on stage, but she was…late! Seriously? Fab planned for the two to kill all the years of tension and join forces on stage and the two, according to Hot 97, were both willing participants. Oh well, there’s always next year on that, but respect to Fab for attempting to pull off what would have been a great moment for hip hop, especially for the females!
Pusha T and Meek Mill also accompanied Fab on stage. Pusha T got the crowd moving with “That Ish I Don’t Like,” and who can even think about sitting still when ever Meek Mill starts to rap? Especially when he performs, “Dreams & Nightmares,” I dare you to not throw a hand up on that one! #hegoessohard
Chris Breezy was in the building! Is there really anything negative anyone can say when it comes to Chris Brown’s performances? He is certainly one of today’s most talented artists. Aside from singing most of his hits, he bought out Sean Kingston for a song and then Fab came out to perform his hit, “Ready.” Chris Brown rarely disappoints when it comes to anything involving music. His energy level was parked at 1000 for his entire set.
The whole summer jam lineup displayed solid performances! Wale, ASAP Rocky, 2 Chainz, Fab, Wu-Tang Clan gave the fans another classic delivery- Method Man moved around that stage like he was brand new looking for a deal! Kendrick Lamar, who was also named #1 rapper this year by MTV’s movers and shakers, gave an extremely powerful performance, particularly for his song, “Backstage.”
The show ended abruptly, due to weather conditions, it ended on a super high note when French Montana performed, “Pop That.” French brought out Rick Ross and Lil Wayne. Wayne’s presence was more than welcomed by the fans! He was a bouncing bean bag and every move he made was met with cheers and approval - he was dope!
Overall, nice work Hot 97-See you next year!
