How to Pack for a Jet Setting Summer

by Publicist
If you have a long summer of traveling planned, you already know you need to pack right in order to fully enjoy every aspect of your vacation. The first thing you will need to take to heart is the fact that packing light will make your trip much easier overall. Many travelers do not feel that they can pack heavy and happy at the same time. If you have ever lugged a big, heavy piece of luggage around, you know how complicated it can be. Here are a few tips to help you get a handle on your packing for your long summer trip.

First, you need to get the idea of only one bag firmly in your head. You should also limit yourself to just one lightweight carry-on bag so you can easily carry the bag around the airports and other transportation stations. The bag needs to fit easily into overhead bins and not kill your back or arms when you carry it on. If you are able to fit everything you need in that one little bag, you might not even need to check a bag. This is possible as long as you pack light and smart. It is likely that you can buy almost anything you need wherever you are going and with baggage fees and the possibility of lost luggage, traveling with just a carry-on is ideal.

Second, take only the essentials. There are hardly any traveling locations where you cannot buy toothpaste, shampoo and even clothing. Rather than take toiletries for the entire trip, just take enough to last you a week and then buy the rest of what you need. You can use what you buy during your journey and then get rid of the bottles along the way. That will leave room in your bag for items you might want to bring back.

Third, consider the type of bag that is best for your travels. You could take a backpack that you can wear or choose a small suitcase that you can roll behind you. Backpacks are more easily mobile, but rolling suitcases are simple to drag across airport terminals. Decide how often you will have to take your luggage along with you and which option best suits your travel needs.

Fourth, limit your electronics. Depending on where you go, you may or may not be able to plug in and charge your items anyway. Leaving most of your electronics at home is a good opportunity to get away from it all for a while.

Last, take a variety of clothing items. Unless you know what the weather is going to be like during your entire time away, it is a good idea to take a little of everything. Pack your favorite Couture Candy jeans, shorts, sandals and shoes and a few different shirts. You can wear your jacket onto the plane, since they are generally chilly anyway and save room in your bag. You can wash whatever you take with you and buy a few new things along the way.
