Born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, Whitney Marbach developed her fashion sense at a very young age. After graduating from the University of Texas in Austin, she sparked the interest of people around her with the designs she wore: self-made jewelry. While doing an internship at Harper’s Bazaar, the fashion editor noticed her unique sense of style and chose to include Whitney’s bracelets in a high fashion layout. Since then, interest in Whitney Marbach designs has grown to include the celebrity world.
Marbach notes: “I find myself being inspired by things I see daily, usually it’s unusual things that I think could be beautifully worn. When I was young I first started loving fashion when I opened a Versace book with pages of bold, innovative, and glamorous Gianni Versace designs. I couldn’t help but fall in love; to me he was the genius of fashion.”
Who do you envision wearing this collection?
I envision a modern woman wearing my designs who loves to be fashion-forward and isn’t afraid of changing it up…someone who is unafraid to make a statement and stand out in a crowd, in a great and bold way. Sometimes I feel like people get stuck in the same wardrobe or jewelry for years. I believe, as time changes so should your accessories.
There is a huge "eco-conscious" movement going on right now.How does this effect Whitney Marbach?
Today, I believe everyone should try to help the environment. At Whitney Marbach, we try as much as possible to make our products “green”. We know not only are “green” products in demand, but we also love to help the environment in anyway possible.
What trends are you seriously tired of?
The trends I feel are over done are the boho-hippie style with the intention of looking “a la naturel” or like the attitude of ‘I don’t care about style,’ when you know that they do. Those tiny hippie like headbands that wrap around the forehead, aren’t very flattering. As for accessories, small dainty jewelry is something of the past and doesn’t work well with today’s high fashion designs.
What trends do you expect will be big this season?
Right now, it’s all about the late 80’s over-exaggerated shoulders and shoulder pads. Also, animal prints, but not many people can pull off these looks. I think for Fall 2009, it will be mostly early 90’s influence. I think bold statement pieces or touches such as bright metallics and neons, paired with black. They can be used for a hint of color. However, I also, think that the large 80’s bows will be making a comeback on clothing as well as accessories.
What’s next for Whitney Marbach?
I would absolutely love to start my own clothing line. Designing clothing has always been my passion. I love jewelry designing as well and look forward to marketing bold necklaces and ring designs along with the WAM Band.
I would love to do a men’s line in the future. I think that men aren’t given as many options as women with clothing. I would love to design an affordable line for men that’s a mix of edgy and classy. To me, older men should always look polished and refined. I think younger men can get away with the edgier looks.
Words of wisdom:
I feel much too young to be giving advice, but what I have learned so far is to do what you love and are naturally good at, then success will follow. On a daily basis I take time to get still and peaceful. This nourishes my creativity.
