FIT Heading to the TOP
FIT on the Catwalk displayed over 100 graduating students' designs from the Fashion Institute of Technology. With categories such as sportswear, special occasion, knitwear, intimate apparel, children's wear, and for the first time, menswear this show was anything but boring! Also for the first time the models wore accessories designed and created by FIT's Accessory Design students. The lead sponsor of the show, Cotton Incorporated, urged students to battle for the best use of cotton. The winners were chosen by judges, Patricia Field, Erica Sonner, Robert Verdi, Kate Betts, and Zang Toi. Students worked with noted fa shion designers as mentors and critics to help design their concepts into garments. Fashion designers such as Alexander Wang, Italo Zucchelli, and Nicole Miller were just a few who helped critique the students. Garments ranged from simple, chic, and timeless to intricate, innovative yet modern. One student used pop can tabs to add metallic detail to their evening gown. Another created a bustier out of welded brass! As a design student at FIT, I may be biased, but more than a few of these graduates are going to be making more than a wave in the fashion industry! Look out!!
