It's a star-studded moment for Kendra Scott founder and designer of Kendra Scott Jewelry. This Austin, Texas based company started in 2002 out of Scott's spare bedroom. Stomping the pavement going door-to-door while marketing her one-of-a-kind pieces Scott's business to become a global multi-million dollar company. Scott has been featured on NBC's Today Show, The Rachel Ray Show, The View and fashion magazines such as INSTYLE, People, ELLE, Allure, BRIDES and O, The Oprah Magazine.
Scott chooses a diverse gems creating statement pieces in a wide variety: earrings, necklaces, bracelets and rings. She also has pieces that fit for all occasions, formal or casual ones. ScottS designs appeal to the young and young-at-heart. All of her gems are designed with her signature eye-catching settings that place her apart from other jewelry designers.
Tell us more about how the company started.
I started my jewelry line after the birth of my first son in 2002. It was my desire to create a line of handcrafted, quality jewelry that was attainable for women and versatile for our busy lives. I had my first set of samples that I carried in a tea box and went door-to-door to all the local boutiques with my son strapped in a Baby Bjorn on my back. At that time, I could have only dreamed that my jewelry would now be in stores all over the world.
Who do you envision wearing this collection?
As cliche as it may sound, I envision every woman wearing my collections. My designs are so versatile that they can be worn by any fashion-forward woman desiring to accessorize jeans and a tee or a fabulous party dress.
What were your inspirations for fall 2010?
For my fall 2010 Collection, I featured four styles Modern, Moroccan, Geometric and Feather all rich in zesty color. For the Modern Collection, I blended smooth, sleek satin metal finishes with clean lines and faceted natural stones like malachite, turquoise and pyrite. In juxtaposition, the Moroccan Collection is full of textured details! While the Geometric and Feather Collections were some of my best sellers updated with great color ways like Cayenne, a fun southwestern mix, Basil, deep greens with bright pops of pink, and Juniper, a more edgy mix of electric cobalt blue and black.
For Holiday 2010, Hollywood glamour and an opulent romantic flare inspired this season's collection. Big statement earrings of sparkling gemstones and dripping chain fringe create the Hollywood glamour style in color ways like Champagne, Berry and Ros', while my Sculptural Rose Collection debuting this season is perfectly feminine and full of romance.
How do you stay relevant in this market?
We keep up with the competition by staying true to ourselves and designing what we believe is fresh and fashion forward while maintaining a competitive price point.
What are the biggest trends right now?
The biggest trends right now are menswear, leopard print, military and the 1950's classic woman.
What's next for Kendra Scott?
For Resort and spring 2011, I am creating a tribal chic styling in bright, breezy colors with a focus on sculptural metal.
