Fall Fashion Explored On Board

by Amanda Dawson

With the naval influence so apparent, where better than the stunning Intrepid Sea-Air-Space Museum to hold the presentation of Nautica's fall 2009 line? Blue shades, gray and navy, blacks with white details, and a sharp splash of orange and yellow gave the line tons of energy! Silhouettes were mostly soft, but at the same time crisp due to the attention on detail. The fall '09 menswear collection is “Old World Tailoring meets Modern Proportions”.

Upon entering the exquisite vessel, we were greeted by a polite gentleman offering sparkling water and Chardonnay. Setting the mood was an enormous LCD screen showing soft ocean waves, making one dream of the sea. In the bluish glow of the showroom, there was a large circular bar complete with candles that seemed to warm the atmosphere almost as much as the cashmere sweaters warmed the models. Models stood like mannequins in tiers on the stairs while guests strolled by to see the new naval-inspired collection.

The collection featured tons of wool. Suits, dress pants, and jackets were abundant, ensuring a cozy ensemble during the crisp fall nights. Cable and hand knit cashmere sweaters were layered under double breasted, naval-inspired jackets. Shawl and turtle necklines gave a modern touch to the sweaters and when paired with a trench coat, it was easily one of the better looks of the night. Black and white cargo pants dominated the models' lower halves, not only because of their functional nature, but because they look great with everything!

Trench coats, blazers, and jackets were only a few of the garments that were complimented by the cargos. Mostly tucked into white boots or barely skimming the top of slip-on shoes, these wool and cotton cargo pants are sure to not only be loved, but also needed this upcoming season!
