We welcome the melodies of stitching that is swarming with colors and patterns all collaborating to complete a unique ensemble. In a distance a distinct sound moving people to parade in a swimsuit affair that is created by (mom and daughter) Brazilian designers Sueli Costa and Gabriela Pires who create and design the following lines: “Opera Swimwear”, “Opera by Sueli”, “Gabikini” and “Operetta by Gabriela Pires” in a boutique out of SoBe (South Beach), Florida.
Originally Sueli (who has more than 20 years in the fashion industry) began designing lingerie in the early 90's. She decided to create a swimwear line that represents beauty and sensuality that has elegance and sophistication. Partnering with her daughter Gabriela, the duo has such a profound insight with the use of fabrics and textiles that incorporates fun, flirty pieces for any age.
The Gabikini line gears toward the youthful teenager to early womanhood with vibrant colors that accentuate any skin tone. Bikini pieces are designed for fit for a comfortable wear with minimal support. The high-end lines, which are Opera by Sueli and Operetta, designed by daughter and partner Gabriela Pires, are defined for women who are young and young at heart and they flatter the woman's frame using rich details, hand embroidery, hand-knitting and hand painting, accessories and embellishments giving the swimsuit exquisite elegance.
How did you get started in the swimwear fashion industry?
IN 1998, I OPENED THE OPERA SWIMWEAR SOUTH BEACH BOUTIQUE AND SOON REALIZED THAT MY CLIENTELE DESERVED SOME DIFFERENT AND EXCLUSIVE. BACK THEN I WAS BUYING FROM OTHER MANUFACTURERS WHO WERE UNABLE TO SUPPLY WHAT I HAD IN MIND, WHICH WAS UNIQUENESS AND INNOVATION. MY FIRST SWIMWEAR COLLECTION WAS CREATED FOR OUR FASHION SHOW AT THE CLEVELANDER HOTEL (SOUTH BEACH) TO PROMOTE THE NEW STORE. THE SHOW JUST LIKE THE COLLECTION WAS A HUGE SUCCESS, AND THE FIRST OF MANY FOR THE PAST 12 YEARS.
What do you think are the biggest swimwear trends right now spring 2010?
I THINK THAT THE MONOKINIS ARE THE MUST-HAVE SWIMWEAR PIECE THIS YEAR AS WELL AS ANIMAL PRINTS THAT ARE STILL STRONG THIS SEASON.
What was your inspiration for your spring 2010 collection?
AS USUAL, A COMBINATION OF BRAZILIAN BEAUTY AND SENSUALITY AS WELL AS EUROPEAN ELEGANCE, WHICH IS ONE OF OPERA'S TRADE MARKS.
How would you describe the overall feel/vibe of Opera by Sueli Costa?
IT'S A BEACH COUTURE DESIGNS SO SOPHISTICATED THAT CAN BE WORN FROM THE POOLSIDE STRAIGHT TO THE OPERA.
What does your design house do during the winter off season?
SEASONS ARE NOT THE SAME IN DIFFERENT HEMISPHERES, WHEN IS WINTER IN THE NORTHERN HEMISPHERE IT'S SUMMER IN THE SOUTHERN. IN OTHER WORDS: WE NEVER STOP WORKING.
What swimwear trends are you tired of?
THE TREND THAT TIRES ME THE MOST ARE THE THONG PIECES THAT HAVE SOMEHOW NOT GROWN OUT OF STYLE. THE ONE THAT I HOPE REMAINS IN 2010 ARE THE 70'S INSPIRED PIECES.
Where can your collection be purchased?
