Haiti: A Call To Arms!

by Kenyatta D. Pious
Hard times bring out the best in people and we have been happy at all of the outpouring from the fashion world, which has responded zealously to the recent tragedy in Haiti. We do not have the time or space to highlight all of the different and meaningful contributions that have been made, but we need to remind you that the battle is not over and we urge you get involved!

Former presidents are involved in a show of unity (www.ClintonBushHaitiFund.org) while fashion brands are donating percentages directly to the relief efforts. Cell phone carriers such as T-Mobile USA waived call charges to and from Haiti. There is a litany of charity organizations that you can donate money and time to and, of course, you can create your own initiative or speak with your human resources department to see about ways your company can assist.

We are highlighting just one example from Modelinia who teamed up with SPiN New York to raise money for the disaster in Haiti. Susan Sarandon, Harvey Weinstein, Georgina Chapman, Selita Ebanks, Veronica Webb, Judah Friedlander, Hilary Rhoda, Russell Simmons and Rachel Roy were all playing ping pong to benefit Friend of the Orphans and St. Damien's Hospital. $20,000 from donations and proceeds from the bar were raised. Montetary donations can still be made at http://apps.facebook.com/causes/434964/ if you wish to help Modelinia's efforts to help Haiti.
