Claire Pettibone Spring 2006
Interviewed and Written By Yvette Coleman
Dear, Claire, I was in love with you before I even knew your
name. I am sure that I am not the only one that does this,
so I wont feel embarrassed. I am a notorious page ripper.
Yes, that’s right! If I spot something in a magazine
that I fall in love with, whether it’s realistic or
not, I must keep it for my wish list or for a shopping trip
when out and about at my leisure or just to stimulate me visually
at a later date. And something else, I must share: I keep
them all in binders by categories such as beauty, fashion,
products, lingerie and so on. During the time I began to research
for this article, I found that Claire Pettibone was one of
my favorites since I had circled her in many magazines. So
when I say that I was in love with Ms. Claire, I was really
addicted before I sat down and put the two together!
Claire Pettibone went to Otis design school and one of her
first jobs was assisting her professor who was also a designer.
For her senior portfolio she concentrated on bridal, eveningwear
and lingerie - - a natural fit for her.
“Feminine and romantic that’s me!” Claire
says with a friendly chuckle.
5 years after working in the industry she started her company
with her husband. She was literally planning her business
and planning her wedding all at the same time. Their idea
was to design a beautiful, high-end line, luxurious with embroideries,
lace and very feminine romantic appeal. Wow! If you have ever
been in the midst if a bride planning her wedding, you know
the chance for a bride-zilla attack is virtually impossible
to escape. But after talking to Claire her nature seems calm
and relaxed as she recalls the inception the line. She’s
the creative one and her husband, Guy, is the business one
(i.e. he is also the one call to set up your email distribution
lists! No worries my husband’s the VCR guy!)
Always a step ahead, the 2006 line is feminine and edgy,
influenced by ivories, antique looks with very special embellishments
that keep in line with her signature look.
Customers can identify their look right away because it is
one of the most romantic looking.
Our collection sells to the young first brides, to mothers,
and grandmothers. The Claire Pettibone Collection is very
rich with lace embroidery. They have a contemporary feeling
and look. The CPJ Collection, which are cotton pajamas, have
been updated from the traditional button front man style and
are now more feminine (and cuter, with camisoles and matching
robes1).
Claire Pettibone can be purchased in Neiman Marcus nation
wide and over 300 boutiques. Saks will carry the CPJ line
in the spring. What’s next for her: beautiful velvets,
rich with color. Ladies get ready for fall 2006!
