LEONELLO BORGHI

“The feeling of the leather got me hooked,” says the Florence born Leonello Borghi who had a precise vision of his career. The relentless desire to design Luxury leather goods brought him to Paris when he was just 21. Borghi worked for many major fashion houses with the finest materials, but still yearned to create his own collection.

 

In 2000, he began designing and expressing his true feelings through his very own collection. Leonello Borghi collection offers clients versatility, function, and sophistication. Leonello is “unapologetic luxury” in ultra luxe materials and uses materials such as deerskin and stingray. Oversized, voluminous shapes define Borghi’s aesthetic.

“We started selling the first LB collection of men’s bags in the summer of 2001. We were able to immediately catch the attention of major retailers such as Barneys New York and Takashimaya. 7 years later we are still here stronger and happier than ever!”

Leonello Borghi has quite an intriguing resume. In the summer of 2002, Borghi was hired as Vice President of Design for Wathne Group to create Ralph Lauren’s accessories collections and in addition, Borghi consults and oversees design for other high-end luxury brands.

Borghi has also established a special relationship with Barneys NY, which has led to exciting collaborations using experimental design concepts and this has now become a seasonal offering. His exclusive range of accessories for Barneys Co-op division debuted in Spring 2007 and is an ongoing collaboration. Borghi’s relentless pursuit of the perfect marriage of form and function in accessories was recognized in 2004 when he was awarded the Rising Star Award for Accessory Design by The Fashion Group International.

His spiritual quest combined with his urban experiences make what is now considered the essence of an LB bag. The clients that takes on the LB bag are strong, independent individuals that want something different!

What do you think will be the biggest trends for 2008?
Individuality and anything customized.

What trends bore you?
Logos. To me that is the exact opposite of luxury.

My day starts with the appreciation of the universe both visible and invisible. My advice to someone trying to break into this business is to take some time off before making any decisions. Spend a few days somewhere where you can really listen to your needs, desires and emotions. Then act accordingly.
