Veronique is an island girl from the French Caribbean isles
of Guadeloupe and she spent all of her life on the beach
in her bathing suits. "Going to the beach in
Guadeloupe was like going to a party and we always had to
have a different suit. We could never be seen wearing the
same suit twice," she explains. Naturally
creating her own collection of suits was the next best step
and of course Veronique added her personal flair, which
is reminiscent of the halcyon days on the beach.
Spring ’08 references the beauty of nature
and the high fashions of New York, Milan and Paris.
This season the V DEL SOL collection features

What do you think are the biggest trends in swimwear
for spring ‘08?
I think the trend is more sophisticated and elegant this
year with a lot of bright colors. There is hot pink, electric
blue, yellow and your classic black and white, which of
course never goes out of style! You will also see a lot
of accessories/stones on suits, which makes everything so
much more high fashion. There is a lot of old Hollywood
glamour coming back and you see it in the swimwear cuts
which are more 50s style. I really love it!
What trends need to disappear?
I am tired of the ‘old & tired.’ I don’t
want to see crazy busy prints that you see repeating year
after year. The nautical print, polka dots they are around
year after year. I know they are classics, but why not change
it around a bit and add that little twist to a classic repeated
polka dots.
Word of wisdom from Veronique:
Be passionate about what you do and never give up. Knock
on all doors and know that one day you will finally get
through. That is what I did.
