Two former marketing and advertising executives Alix Cameron and Cindy Ball found an opportunity and a flash of inspiration while spending time in the park when a friend of Alix’s leaned over to pick up her young son and out popped her thong. It was the summer of the low rise jeans; her friend said, “Don’t you hate it every time you bend down all anyone sees is your thong!” Alix said, “I think you just gave me an idea!” They called it the “thong flash of inspiration”. The Smart Ass team found an untapped business and branded a new wave of lingerie. “We had been looking for a business to start together so our eyes were open to opportunities. We believe this made the difference. That was the genesis of our first product the Signature thong that has sassy sayings like “control freak”, “eye candy” and “natural blonde” on the back T-bar of the thong.”
They call it “inspirational sass for your fantastic ass!” Their signature thong turned a fashion faux pas into a fashion statement literally, with sassy sayings like ‘yummy mummy’, ‘domestic diva’ and ‘trophy wife’ on the back T-bar of the thong. The Smart Ass team has an assortment of other bottoms, camisoles, and chemises in a variety of custom designed prints.
Their mission: “to bring a smile to women’s lingerie drawers’ one fantastic ass at a time!”
For spring and summer 2008 the inspiration for the team is everyday sexy! For women to enjoy and have lingerie that is both sexy, comfortable, and can become a wardrobe addition not just “disposable lingerie.”

Words of wisdom from Alix and Cindy:
“We liken it to eating an elephant, or in our case, a donkey - just take it one bite at a time. When you have a business idea and you actually decide to take it to the next level and make it happen, it takes a lot of energy and stamina. There are so many steps involved it’s very easy to get overwhelmed. Just keep working through what needs to be done and ask lots of questions. We weren’t afraid to ask questions, call up complete strangers and dive into unknown territory. Slowly but surely we could see our business begin to take shape. We continue to still chomp away at the donkey. There are lots of challenges but we keep it manageable by taking one bite at a time.”
