Sauvage – pool cool / hot swimwear
Spring 2007
Written by Yvette N. Coleman

"Sauvage" is French for "wild!" This name comes from an inspiration to bring European flair to the U.S. swimwear world.  San Diego native and the city's hottest swimwear designer, Elizabeth Southwood, has gained notoriety for sexy suits that have taken the market by storm coast to coast!

Sauvage started in 1980 by Simon and Elizabeth, “I always loved to sew, making my own designer outfits, my boy-friend, later husband, and I partnered together and decided to try and sell – we were successful!” says Elizabeth.

And successful they have become with features in this spring's Sports Illustrated swimwear issue, Victoria’s Secret swim catalog, and the hit show VEGAS were Molly Sims wore 5 different sexy suits from the duo! Showing off in their Sauvage swimwear last summer were luminaries Paris Hilton, Brittany Spears, Hef’s girls next door, Marisa Miller.

Elizabeth knows that the Vegas pool is no place to be demure. Sauvage has Swarovski jeweled bikinis, minimal two pieces, wild animal prints, and Sauvage is the only brand that we know that makes really sexy one–pieces: body baring cut-out silhouettes in shiny metallic and strong primary solids.

This season Elizabeth brings strong neutral palette of black, white, browns and gold, influenced by strong runway trends, mid-century modern architecture that will continue to have that "wow" factor that her customers have grown to love.

What do you think are the biggest swimwear trends right now Spring '07?
“Sporty mix and match, classic neutral geometric shapes, cut-out one pieces, bikinis with Swarovski crystals (a trend started by Sauvage),” points out Elizabeth.

What swimwear trends are you seriously tired of?
“Mix and match /Brazilian look / halter tops, the trend of huge bottoms. Look for more new futuristic designs, cover-ups and possible lingerie," adds Elizabeth.
