Agua de Coco
Summer 2007
Written By Yvette N Coleman
“Agua de Coco” gets its marketing punch from the relation of its translation to the swimwear buyers all over the world. It translates into “coconut water” in Portuguese, known to be the most hydrating natural liquid found on earth that is enjoyed by millions of beach goers throughout the coastal lines of all tropical countries in the world.
The designer Liana Thomaz created Água de Coco with only one sewing machine, a seam mistress, plenty of determination and a well defined target: to release a beachwear brand with unchallengeable quality. Currently, the much acclaimed swimwear brand has definitely found a space of its own in the world of fashion scene, being distributed in United States by Mirla Sabino.
The starting point of AGUA DE COCO’s collection is a study undertaken by the fashion stylist Liana Thomaz on Portuguese tiles that adorn façades of a historical Brazil, full of poetry and color. Later on, the designer’s tour took off to new routes and widened the collection’s horizons on gazing to the tiles and gardens that ornate both Italian villas and Venetian palazzos as well, its works of art, vases, porcelain, columns, plants, flowers, gardens, floors and statues. Everything is transported to a tropical environment and echoes in the artist Athos Bulcão’s public work, the creator of the amazing murals that adorn Brasilia. Thus, this collection is a stroll among pineapples that ornate Villa Thomaz’s gardens.
Inspired by tiles, mosaics and gardens, the color pallet gazes at materials and styles which make up this universe. Agua de Coco’s Summer 2007 brings out: baroque-brown, tulip-pink, tile-blue, Byzantine-purple, ceramic-red, mosaic-yellow, neo-classic-turquoise, porcelain-turquoise, Persian-green, marble-grey, empire-blue, black and white.
Água de Coco can be purchased in more than 300 stores in Brazil. Abroad, the brand’s pieces are available in several countries, such as USA, Canada, Spain, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Japan, Australia, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, Caribe, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Hawaii, Canary Islands, Costa Rica and South Africa.
