For Candice Held the vision is so clear: beauty inspired by nature, the vibrancy of a confident woman.  Her collection for the Spring is truly unique with simple tie silk dresses that have beautiful prints, cotton sundresses and tops that are just perfect for a seamless day to night transition.  We got an inside glimpse of Candice’s day to day prepping for her Fashion Week presentation. 

For starters Candice ensures us that she is well rested and organized - - this is key in order to stay on top of every detail.  Most designers are a year ahead of schedule, this includes ideas, fabric sourcing, sketching, draping...all begin about a year in advance.  The complete collection is shown to editors, press, and buyers about six months before scheduled delivery.

Candice is very hands on with the creation of her show: “I have an overall vision for how I want the show to look, and I collect tear sheets for hair, makeup, jewelry, shoes.  I keep a running list of show music, then work with a DJ to create a show mix.  I like the models to be very diverse, because there are so many kinds of beauty!”

After all of the fittings, alterations, and determining the order of the show, it's show time! The day of the show Candice manages to get through interviews, overseeing backstage activity, unloading the collection, steaming, coaching the dressers, and event makes sure to give the models a last look before the girls step out on to the runway! Whew!

And as the show begins she stands at the top of the model lineup, making last second adjustments to the models’ looks before they walk out.  The show goes on without a hitch and now Candice takes a breath to celebrate with friends! She adds,  “Fashion moves quickly, and (during Fashion Week) it is good to establish a presence!”

Candice believes that dresses that continue to function as a strong wardrobe staple are what's hot now. She believes that obvious, over-the-top logos are on the way out..

Stay tuned for Fall/Winter 2007 when Candice will “introduce original graphic prints with a sixties feel, for versatile silhouettes constructed in luxurious silk knit.”
