Managing Metallics

Many designers found managing metallics in their collections a fun challenge.  Metallics were found in countless facets of this season’s must have wardrobe; from silver woven hobo bags to gold lame` cocktail dresses. No longer does one need to have a fear of metallics overbearing one’s ensemble` or oneself. This season, metallics are offered in small elements such as strappy, silver, wedges for the trendy female, or as shimmering bronze trousers for the brave iconoclast. There is a metallic element suitable for all, and when the right one is found, it can do wonders for the skin tone. Deciphering whether golds and browns help one’s skin to glow or if subtle silvers illuminate one’s features best, metallics, once managed, can do wonders for any woman and her outfit.

Safari Chic

For most, chic is not the first word one would choose to describe khaki, but this season, designers took the safari look for all the miles it was worth. To achieve this Saharan look, many designers paired khaki as a separate with more luxe fabrics such as crocodile boleros or snake skin straight pants.

A monochromatic look of browns and tans is key in achieving this look, while adding punches of bold color via three-inch turquoise heels, or with chunky vibrant red jewelry. Have fun adding tribal inspired accents to this age old look of safari chic.

Seeing Stripes?

A myriad of collections for the spring/ summer ‘07 showcased these energetic bands of color. They were found in blouses, dresses, pants, and even shoes as focal points and accents. Designers went gaga over this longstanding print, whether they utilized them as bold garments that stood on their own or as a nautical textile; stripes are definitely making waves this season.

Stripes though usually assumed to be more casual can be dressed up or down depending on the fabric chosen as well as the size of the stripe. Finding the appropriate stripe is important; size, color, and direction of the stripes are all things to consider when purchasing this print. Vertical stripes tend to be more sliming, while horizontal stripes flatter the petite female frame.
