United as One - Blanco Label
Written by Yvette N. Coleman

The concept for Blanco Label came from the unity expressed for the Latin community. “Blanco Label is a concept that came about while our team was putting together a Latin based line. After we did all of our market and business research, our fellow Latinos all across America decided to march in protest to the immigration issues that faced many of our illegal immigrants. EVERYONE WORE WHITE IN UNITY. That gave us our final piece of the puzzle – Thus Blanco Label came about,” says Willie Escobar Montanez.

Willie Escobar Montanez branched off the success of the WILLIE ESCO brand and created the Makaveli Branded Collection, which elevated Willie from having to be attached to his namesake brand. As the Willie Esco era came to an end, the plans for Blanco immediately became a priority. Looking for the perfect partner was probably the hardest part. The rest is second nature, the potential and numbers speak for themselves. Montanez adds, “With knowing the Latin market is a constant, cyclical, rising market, picking up where Willie Esco left off was our goal.”

This season their inspiration for the Blanco Label will be a “Botanica”   theme, which hits the heart of the Latin culture as there is an abundance of Botanica stores in many Latin communities. The images are all religious and spiritual in nature. “

Montanez points out that “The images are so strong that they inspired me to design our fall collection around this theme.” Blanco Label is building a bridge and intends to share the culture, creativity, and pride of the Latin community.  Blanco Label features button up shirts, well manufactured jeans, knits, and polo’s for the male who enjoys being on the cutting edge of all things trendy and fashion forward.

We asked Willie Escobar Montanez what trends he expects to be big next season and he said:

“What’s trending to me is retro in all shapes – The beginnings of hip hop, the beginnings of punk rock. Just be careful not to get caught in any pictures wearing this stuff cause when your lil’ brother is clowning you in 10 yrs you might just be embarrassed. (P.S- Your lil bro will be wearing a retro Esco jersey).”

The Blanco label creates avenues between the established streetwear/urban brands that will offer moderately priced casual and sportswear pieces for the male who loves to be a trendsetter.  In response to the term "urban" and Blanco Label's place againt other brands, Montanez said:“call it whatever you like, as time goes on all of the pioneers in Urban will be embedded in the garment world. As the old heads get replaced with us, we will be less judgmental of the terms given to the young men’s market. Because that’s what it all is Young Men’s Market. We are in our own lane. We don’t need to worry bout the top dogs right now 'cause the market I am catering to buy those brands at off price or discounters. The goal is to create brand awareness for our customer, who will choose from fresh Blanco Product or old, late 90’s brands.”

Blanco Label has outfitted many of today’s top artists including:  Frankie J, Alexis Y Fido, Play N Skillz, Roccett, and NORE.  The brand has also been featured on MTV, BET, Telemundo, and all of the top urban magazines throughout the world.

Look for the LCN – La Cosa Nuestra label- An upper echelon version of Blanco which will compete directly with the hottest brands in the market, without a cultural message, for the more fashion forward Blanco audience.

Words of wisdom from Willie Escobar Montanez:
“Learn your profession, every aspect of it. Enjoy your journey and be ready to be happy with the end results, whatever they are.”
