How and why did the brand start and who started it?
A&S is the brain child of Pascal Alouidor, a gifted and originally inspired designer and friend. He did it for the love of it for many years before any of this…when there wasn’t any light at the end of the tunnel. The brand was formed when we started the ‘Fly Like We’ movement, a name Pascal had dubbed our crew. [This is] a movement that includes dj’s, actors, mc’s, producers, party promoters, you name it, dudes that just really live life [and who were] doing this to get our style of fly out and so it’s so much deeper than the actual garments.
Describe A&S in three words.
Original, intelligent, fly!
What can you say about the current collection?
Life and what motivates us to live it inspires many of the concepts and themes of our collection. Some other themes are what we call bright light influenced. You know, kind of like when the light bulb goes on in your head when you have an ill idea. But at the end of the day it all makes sense each one of our prints has a theme or concept to grasp.
Who do you envision wearing this collection?
We don’t design with any one particular demographic in mind, we design for us first and the people that live life the way we do. Our minds are wide open, color blind to borders. People with true swag and original sense of style live this way! That’s who we want to wear the brand.
Explain the name?
It’s the last names of the two chief designers, Pascal Alouidor and Derek Smith with a little twist. ‘Smith’ also is an acronym for: so many intelligent themes.
What brands do you compete against?
We don’t have [competitors]. Brands that embrace our way of thinking and designing actually enhance the landscape of our market. [We survive] by making clothes that actually make sense without being too simplistic or stating the obvious, but also finding a way to remain original. The real competition comes from the cookie cutter giants that take true artists’ work and pimp it out!
What do you like/ hate about the current fashion industry?
I like the Wild, Wild West mentality - - it’s like the 1849 gold rush back in the day. Everybody is going for self and the little guy can actually compete with the big dogs for space on a retailer’s floor. I hate Biters!!!

How is A&S marketed?
We have been fortunate enough to get some great looks and we have been shown a lot of love by stylists and fashion editors. We’ve had placement on MTV, BET and Fuse numerous times. We have been featured in mags like Entertainment Weekly XXL, King, YRB, The Source and others. We’ve also had celebrities from Pitbull and Saigon to Trey Songz and Mario Winans rocking our stuff, and many atheletes as well.
What can the ladies expect from A&S?
As of now there isn’t a women’s line, however, we do plan on introducing a small women’s capsule of tops in ‘08.
Be a trend spotter for a second - - what is on the horizon?
People trying too hard to relive the eighties!
What should we look for from A&S in the near future?
To continue the movement of fly like we, and the momentum it has created. Don’t count us out for anything, look for us everywhere. We’re just getting started. From tv, to press, to editorials, to radio, to the vip section in your favorite club. We have big plans!
And for those that aspire to be like you, what do you say to them?
Never give up, give everything its due diligence! Don’t compromise your integrity or ideals. Get ready for a lot of stress and late nights cause this ain’t easy. Fly Like We!!
