OSMAN YOUSEFZADA
Spring/ Summer 07
The graphic geometry of Tudor and Medieval silhouettes is
softened with the addition of relaxed drapery inspired by
Asian techniques. Billowing fabrics are tamed with light
touches of tailoring. Key pieces in this collection come
in the shape of perfect dresses, structured tops and arresting
skirts worked in a concise palette of pales and neutrals,
and cut from luxurious silk blends, supple jersey and fragile
chiffon.
Yousefzada has already created a distinctive and confident
signature for his label. By combining innovative cutting
with masterful drapery he crafts desirable timeless garments
in the most luxurious fabrics.
Yousefzada designs through instinct, his pieces reflect
a deep rooted design sensibility. His path to fashion designer
is was an unorthodox one, Osman Yousefzada initially graduated
from Cambridge University. However, Yousefzada could not
ignore his desire to design and then went on to study Fashion
Design at Central St Martins.
The conflict between tradition and modernity create an interesting
paradox within Yousefzada's design solutions. The clothes
are exceptionally precise, well tailored and finished but
are softened with sensuous draping that is inspired by his
interest in ethnicity and costume of ancient cultures. This
contradiction creates simple yet highly directional pieces.
Yousefzada succeeds in making beautiful, resonant clothes
that are at once both unusual and distinctive, drawing the
eye to the universally attractive elements of a woman's body.
With growing recognition from the industry, Yousefzada is
definitely an emerging British talent.
