BK Fashion Week{end} Premier Season A Success
The premier season of BK Fashion Week{end} was nothing less than spectacular. Three nights of fashion, music and fun right in the heart of D.U.M.B.O. at the Tobacco Warehouse in Empire Fulton Ferry State Park.
The designers were Bryant Park worthy, the production comparable to that of Seventh on Sixth, the crowd was simply beautiful and the venue featured dramatic evening views of the Brooklyn Bridge. Simon Duncan, Nana Boateng and Zulema Griffin all glittered at Friday night’s show. Saturday’s show displayed the effervescence of Roger Gary, SIXXfOOTA who not only impressed us with their designs but also those that participated in her show, including: Kwame Jackson of The Apprentice, Chad Coleman of HBO’s The Wire and Ovie Mughelli of the Baltimore Ravens. Nativo, MyrJan provided a sleek, sophisticated and dreamy show of both wedding and evening wear, Cotrice Couture, Rocksmith, Duroseau and H.O.R.R.S also exulted in the apture of the crowd. Nina Valenti kicked off the closing night with her line, NaturevsFuture followed by Jewel Shannon, Tyeknow, Harriet’s Alter Ego, Khalil, Vaine and Vaella. The evening ended with a bang, as Get Money Girl by Shanny Herrera displayed their extremely chic styles. Herrera’s models playfully tossed money into the crowd to accentuate her theme of “getting money!”
This event proved to be extremely favorable for the borough of Brooklyn. Borough President, Marty Markowitz whole heartedly endorsed BK Fashion Week{end}. BK Fashion Week{end} has made such an imprint that it is certain there will be many more future endorsements to come. The BK Style Foundation and their team are already organizing the extravaganza for next season, which will take place the first week in October.
The DUMBO Improvement District, an organization composed of DUMBO, Brooklyn based businesses, provided excellent support to BK Fashion Week{end}'s Premiere Season. The organization was instrumental in rallying the area businesses around the groundbreaking new lifestyle event. Businesses had restaurant specials, after-parties, and other special events in conjunction with BK Fashion Week{end}. Some of the participating businesses were: Spring Gallery, Superfine Restaurant, Water Street Restaurant and The eXpo Gallery.
Sponsors for the event included: 70 Washington Street Luxury Condos, The New York Daily News, New York Water Taxi (official event shuttle), Design Within Reach, Brooklyn Heights, Indigo Professional Hair Care Products, MAC Cosmetics, Hypnotiq, Cake Man Raven, Mood Inc Designer Fabrics and Iceland Spring Water who had a consortium of their products at the event.
BK Fashion Week[end] has catapulted DUMBO into eminence as the invite of the Fall Fashion season.
