TRETIN•X
Written by Yvette N. Coleman
As a teen I suffered from severe acne and I must tell you I tried everything under the sun. My mother carried me from one doctor to the next, from antibiotics to strongest prescription, and nearly all over the counter soaps, scrubs and nothing seemed to work for long periods of time. Even though I was not alone (nearly 85% of people ages 12 to 24 will be affected by this skin condition) I felt isolated and became introverted.
As if the trials of finding out who you will become in life are not difficult enough, the angst of dealing with acne supplements poor self image, confidence, and social integration. All of this because of the red, irritated bumps that seem to control most teenagers' and some adults’ happiness. Up until about 3 years ago, I thought the phrase “you’ll grow out of it” was just that, a phrase. To me it was a phrase used to pacify and give hope that someday this affliction would end. I only wish during those defining moments that I had the opportunity to use a treatment that was simple, affordable and effective. |

“Dermatologists have been waiting for a way to get the efficacy of tretinoin in a system that addresses the issue of over drying,” says Peter Volk, Vice President of Marketing at Triax Pharmaceuticals, “and also gives them some control over the products their patients use with treatment. Tretin•X does that.”
Tretin•X is available in 0.025% cream, 0.05% cream, 0.1% cream, 0.01% gel, and 0.025% gel. The T3 Foaming Cleanser is non-soap and non-irritating and features CoQ10 and green tea extract. Neither cosmetic product is sold separately, but a tube of each (approximately a month’s supply) is in every box of Tretin•X.
Dryness, redness, or peeling may occur during the first weeks of treatment. To prevent irritating the skin, protect it from sun, sunlamps, extreme wind or cold, and harsh skin-care products. Use of sunscreen is recommended. Use of the products should be discontinued if hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients is noted. |

T3 Foaming Cleanser
CoQ10 (Coenzyme Q-10)—a compound found naturally in the cells that helps regulate energy production. CoQ10 also works as an antioxidant. Antioxidants are substances that scavenge free radicals, damaging compounds in the body that alter cell membranes, and even cause cell death. Free radicals occur naturally in the body, but environmental toxins (including ultraviolet light, radiation, cigarette smoke, and air pollution) can also increase the number of these damaging particles.
Two human (clinical) trials show significant reduction in fine wrinkles around the eyes with no side effects. Other studies show that application before sun exposure protects against sun damage.*
Green tea extract—Green tea contains compounds with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Green tea extracts are commonly found in wrinkle creams.
Animal studies of topical tea extracts show that they protect against skin cancer and prevent sun damage. Human studies of topical green tea extracts also show that they protect against sun damage with no side effects. Preliminary research shows that tea extracts may reduce wrinkles.*
T3 Soothing Moisturizer
Dipeptide-1 complex—Minimizes potential irritation that may be associated with other treatments. A peptide is the condensation of 2 alpha amino acids to form a dipeptide bond between 2 alpha amino acids called a peptide bond. A molecule containing 2 amino acids joined by a peptide bond is a dipeptide.
Bisabolol—a European anti-irritant, the active principal in chamomile, guards against redness and sensitivity.
Soothing aloe vera base—Aloe vera is a fairly well-known herbal preparation with a long history of use. It is widely used in modern herbal practice and is often available in proprietary herbal preparations. It has 2 distinct types of medicinal use. The clear gel contained within the leaf makes an excellent treatment for wounds, burns, and other skin disorders, placing a protective coat over the affected area, speeding up the rate of healing, and reducing the risk of infection. This action is in part due to the presence of aloectin B, which stimulates the immune system. To obtain this gel, the leaves can be cut in half lengthwise and the inner pulp rubbed over the affected area of skin.
