Talking Trends
Written by Christen Angele Weaver
And the Furs Have It

Coats have long surpassed their original use of warmth and are now, at times, solely worn for style. This season’s coat trend is clear; the furs have it! Fur coats in a multitude of silhouettes, colors, and trims. Adding a fur coat to your wardrobe will make any ensemble a sure fire show-stopper. You might find yourself building your whole wardrobe around this single, wonderful piece. And luckily, this investment is functional as well as aesthetically pleasing.

There is a fur out there for everyone; as these luxurious coats are seen this season in a multitude of styles and figure flattering forms. Grab a fox fur cape to throw on over a simple t-shirt or a more exotic textured astrakhan duster to wear over an elegant evening gown. The lengths are literally endless.

Beautiful to Boot

And what is winter without a great boot? It is definitely this season's most coveted item. But, finding the right one for you is key. Fortunately, they are available in a multitude of styles, colors, heels, and calf shapes. Keep one thing in mind while shopping: the higher the boot, the better.

The Coco Chanel, black, leather, thigh-high boot is the epitome of this season’s ideal boot. Afraid of heights? Then settle on below the knee. Once found, pair your boots with the ever popular, perfectly fitted, tapered jean or with a short, mod trapeze dress worn with thick black tights. The runways debuted boots from an equestrian feel, to pilgrim like, fur trimmed, stiletto heeled, and flat soled. This seasons boots are so gorgeous, they could walk on their own.

Lovely Layers

Can’t decide between your grey, cable knit sweater, and your black, ribbed knit top? Wear them both! This season’s warming trend is layering, and warmer yet, the layering of knit pieces. Designers showcased chunky, fuzzy, and cozy knits that looked like your grandmother hand knitted them for you with love.

These fabrics are sure to make any winter bearable. These pieces are wonderful on their own, but lovely when layered together. Don’t be afraid of layering adding bulk to your feminine frame, combine them in varying weights, starting with the lightest being closest to your body and the thickest and heaviest being your coat. And throughout the day the layers can be peeled off as you see fit. Wrap yourself in a cashmere cardigan, wool dress, or a chunky, turtle neck knit, and top it off with a rich, knee length, tweed pea coat.
