Lingerie
Americas New York: Evermore Seductive
Written by Kenyatta D. Pious
The mission statement says it all: to offer North American
retailers a world-class trade Show providing them with a
unique work environment where they can meet International
Industry leaders to better service their customers and
increase their sales.
Lingerie Americas Inc. was created in 2001 in response to
a need expressed by lingerie experts in North America for
a professional trade show format on a par with other high-end
fashion venues across the world. Lingerie Americas first
trade show came onto the scene with great acclaim in August
2002.
Lingerie Americas first fashion show and the first
one ever held for the industry on this side of the Atlantic
was created by the same team in August 2003 and received
kudos not only from lingerie experts but also from the
fashion industry at large. Lingerie Americas trade shows
have now become a magnet for lingerie experts in the Americas
and attract an ever-growing audience of international buyers
from Japan and Australia. Lingerie Americas is the New
York Market Week backbone event, which elevated lingerie
to couture standards. Its reputation extends internationally.
This past season was held at the Altman Building and Metropolitan
Pavilion on 18th Street in Manhattan. The collections were Fall/Winter
2006-2007 with lots of sleepwear and loungewear, 160
in total: Stan Herman, J&C Jaycris, Boerner, Féraud,
Nocturne etc. Out of a total of 250 brands present
in the three main exhibit halls - 41 brands showed
for the first time (including in The Winter
Garden). Other notables include Vera Wang
and in the daywear category, Cosabella.
Lingerie Americas has received continued
support from Invista, a major provider of
high-performance fibers to the industry. Represented by its
leading brands, Lycra® and Tactel®, Invista reinforces
its exposure and connection with the brands as well as with
the retailers.
We sat down with three of the awesome brands featured at
Lingerie Americas for an in-depth discussion into their machinations. Up
